Corten steel sheet, commonly known as weathering steel, is a high-strength low-alloy steel sheet that develops a stable, tightly adherent rust-like surface patina when exposed to the atmosphere. Manufactured per ASTM A588 / A242 specifications, the patina layer acts as a natural barrier to further corrosion, eliminating the need for paint or protective coatings in most atmospheric environments.
Corten weathering steel sheets are used in architectural facade cladding, landscape structures, sculpture and public art installations, bridge construction, railway wagons, retaining walls, and outdoor furniture where a distinctive weathered rusted aesthetic combined with structural performance and low maintenance is desired.
Spark Steel supplies Corten steel sheets conforming to ASTM A588 Grade B / A242 with yield strength minimum 345 MPa and tensile strength minimum 485 MPa. Available in thicknesses from 1.5 mm to 50 mm and widths up to 2500 mm in standard lengths of 6 m or custom cut. Mill test reports with full chemical and mechanical properties certification supplied with each order.
